June 2011

27 June 2011: The Yard success continues with our 4th winner in two weeks from just 9 starts. MIDNIGHT FEAST confirmed his consistent promise of earlier runs by comfortably winning the 6f maiden at Windsor tonight. Luke Morris had him out of the stalls faster than an exocet; he later grabbed the rail and at the 2f pole let him go. MIDNIGHT FEAST was never headed & he beat a heavily backed newcomer by 1.75 lengths.

21 June 2011: The last five days have yielded three winners from six runners. For the turf Season so far we have had 7 wins + 13  paying places from just  32 runners.

VAL O'HARA (25/1), a 3 y/o filly by Ad Valorem, won on her debut at Kempton (10f). A taking performance under Jim Crowley, she beat a number of expensive fillies from prominent stables and has paid the price with a rating of 83. But Mervyn Stewkesbury's home-bred is a strong, good bodied, type so she should be able to carry weight. However she is relatively inexperienced.

FIRE SHIP (5/1), a 2 y/o gelding by Firebreak, won at the second time of asking on the softened turf (7f) at Lingfield, despite receiving a bump a furlong out. He knuckled down well & stayed on under Luke Morris.  A nice consolation for his owners (Gareth Burchell, Ian Callaway, Philip Pooley) whose promising first racehorse was fatally injured before she ran. A big, backward , sort we will not rush with him, but nurseries don't start for a few weeks yet.

FOXTROT ALPHA (7/4 fav) won nicely at Brighton today (7f), having been second there & also second at Kempton previously. A confident ride from 5 lb claimer James Rogers, who won on her last year & whose record with us is now 2 wins+ a third from three rides. We will be using him again! This strongly-built 5 y/o mare is in foal to Royal Applause so her racing days are numbered. She is currently enjoying her racing & has now won four times (at 2,4 & 5) + achieved 8 paying places from just 22 runs over four seasons.

11 June 2011:
A minor excitement for the Yard today. TULLIUS was quite narrowly beaten (after being impeded) in a hot handicap at Sandown. Ian Mongan took up the lead over a furlong out but we found one too good. He is a really consistent ,improving, sort but is now up the handicap to 88.

FOXTROT ALPHA may run at Brighton on Friday & SHIMMERING SURF is scheduled for the fillies LISTED race at Haydock next Saturday.
